U17s Tournament, 29/05/2008
On the 29th May, Matson entered the U16’s into the U17’s touch competition at Kingsholm, sponsored by the RAF.
We won the competition by beating the current U16 county champions Cheltenham in the Final 3 - 2 on tries.
We played the following games in the group stages:
Matson U16’s 1 – 1 Dursley U16’s
Matson U16’s 2 – 1 Cinderford U17’s
Matson U16’s 7 – 0 Barbarians
Semi Final:
Matson U16’s 4 – 2 Old Richians U17’s
Final:
Matson U16’s 3 – 2 Cheltenham U17’s
Squad of 11 players comprising of: Rory Woodward (Capt), Nico Woodward, Joe Hoyle, Alex Hoyle, Ben Leach, Joe Payne, Jarred Campbell, Lee Taylor, Liam Harding, Jevan Brown & Dean Harper
With rolling subs every player worked hard and played for each other. Each game they got better and better and soon understood the basics of touch rugby. Guest player Rory Woodward took over the captain’s armband from his brother for the competition, both had good input on tactics and motivation. All the players showed commitment to each other and were not concerned when used as rolling subs.
Very pleasing to beat the current U16 county champions, even when down to 5 players after a harsh sinbin.
